A super basic cornbread recipe, we keep all the ingredients except milk on hand at all times.


  • Cornmeal (1 cup)
  • Flour (1 cup, all purpose)
  • Baking Powder (4 tsp)
  • Sugar (1/4 cup, white granulated)
  • Salt (1/2 tsp)
  • Milk (1 cup, we usually use 1% anything but skim should be great)
  • Egg (1 large)
  • Oil (1/4 cup, we usually use canola)


  1. Preheat the oven to 425ºF.
  2. Coat a skillet with non-stick spray.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk together the wet ingredients.
  5. Stir wet into dry, mix to combine but don't over mix.
  6. Pour batter into the prepped skillet and bake for 20 minutes. Continue baking until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Serve warm.
